Cracow University of Technology (PK) is implementing a project under the NAWA SPINAKER – Intensive International Educational Programmes (IMPK)
“IMPK – Sustainable Building Materials and Technologies”
Project No. BPI/SPI/2024/1/00026
Project duration: 2025-06-01 to 2026-07-31
Funding amount: PLN 299,810.00
Funding under FERS – European Funds for Social Development – “Support for the creation and implementation of international educational programmes” – total allocation PLN 98,934,944.42.
Beneficiary: NAWA – Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The main goal is to develop and implement an intensive, hybrid educational programme – a summer school delivered in English for students, doctoral candidates and academic staff from foreign universities.
Under SPINAKER IMPK “Sustainable building materials and technologies,” the project will develop and implement intensive international learning formats – a summer school on sustainable building materials and technologies, delivered in English for students, doctoral candidates and academic staff from abroad and carried out at PK.
ACTIVITIES
In the first stage, the project includes preparing teaching materials and strengthening staff competencies (specialist training for 2 people and English language improvement for 9 lecturers).
The planned summer school programme includes 60 hours delivered in hybrid form, covering 9 micro-courses:
- Geopolymers – 8 h (4 h lecture + 4 h lab)
- Use of VR/AR in construction – 8 h (4 h lecture + 4 h lab)
- 3D printing of cements/concretes – 8 h (4 h lecture + 4 h lab)
- Design of high-performance and ultra-high-performance concrete – 4 h (lecture)
- Fibre-reinforced mineral materials – properties, applications, design – 8 h (4 h lecture + 4 h lab)
- Self-compacting concrete – properties, applications, design – 8 h (4 h lecture + 4 h lab)
- Fire behaviour testing of building materials – 4 h (lecture)
- Non-destructive testing of cement and geopolymer concrete structures – 6 h (4 h lecture + 2 h lab)
- Testing ageing processes in building materials – 6 h (4 h lecture + 2 h lab)
Classes will be delivered partly online (28 hours – lectures) and partly on-site in Kraków (32 hours – lectures and labs). On-site verification of learning outcomes is also planned.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The project will support medium- and long-term goals of the participating faculties and PK regarding internationalisation. In particular, it will contribute to:
- Increasing recognition of PK among young researchers as a centre specialising in sustainable building materials aligned with the circular economy.
- Facilitating future applications for prestigious research grants and cooperation with industrial partners, including internationally.
- Developing professional micro-courses in English that can later be included permanently in PK’s educational offer (e.g. for ERASMUS participants).
- Improving competencies of staff involved in the project, supporting their professional development and strengthening PK’s position as a leading centre in circular-economy-related material research.
- Enhancing PK’s brand as a partner in international networks and a university open to global collaboration.
- Improving teaching quality through better English proficiency among staff and increased use of international literature.
- Developing skills needed for effective work in an international environment, including teaching in English.
